Why Do Chests Appear as Stone? #

NOTE
Summary: As part of PurpurMC's anti-cheat protection, chests that players cannot directly see are sent to your client as stone blocks to prevent cheat modifications from detecting them. This is an intentional security measure, not a glitch.

1. Purpose and How the System Works #

To prevent players using illegal cheats (such as X-Ray, Chest-ESP, or Freecam) from locating underground vaults, hidden bases, and chests through walls from far away:

  • Obscured Containers: Any chest behind a wall or outside your direct line of sight is disguised and sent by the server as a stone block.
  • Restoring Normal Appearance: As soon as you directly look at the chest or approach near it, it immediately reverts to its standard chest appearance.
  • Fully Interactive While Stone: Even if a chest visually looks like a stone block, you can still right-click it to open and access your items normally.

2. Chests Appearing as Stone on Login #

When you freshly join the server (or teleport to a new area), seeing your chests as stone blocks for the first few seconds is completely normal while chunks and line-of-sight calculations load. They will pop into their normal chest texture within seconds or as soon as you move.

3. What to Do If Chests Remain as Stone #

In rare cases where a client-side packet desync causes chests to stay rendered as stone:

  1. Right-Click the Block: Right-clicking the stone-masked block will generally force an instant visual update and open your chest.
  2. Move Away and Return: Walk a short distance away so the chunk unloads/refreshes, then walk back.
  3. Reconnect to the Server: Disconnecting and reconnecting to the server refreshes all block states and resolves the issue completely.
