Do Farms Work in PurpurMC?
Do Farms Work in PurpurMC? #
On PurpurMC, virtually all traditional automated farms, mob grinders, villager setups, and redstone mechanics from standard Minecraft survival are fully supported and operational.
1. Supported Farming & Automation Systems #
We fully support player-constructed production facilities and automated builds:
- Iron Golem Farms: Fully active and running 24/7 without interruption.
- Agricultural Crop Farms: Wheat, potato, carrot, melon, pumpkin, sugarcane, bamboo, and cactus farms follow standard vanilla mechanics.
- Mob Grinders & Advanced Spawner Mechanics: Classic dark-room grinders and dungeon mob spawner systems operate smoothly. Furthermore, spawners feature player-friendly custom advantages:
- Unconditional Spawning: Mob-specific environmental requirements are completely bypassed. For example, livestock (cows, chickens) do not require grass blocks to spawn, and hostile monsters (zombies, skeletons) do not require darkness. Spawners operate reliably on any surface and in any light level.
- Effortless Redstone Deactivation: You do not need to blanket your spawners in torches to turn them off; simply supplying a redstone signal to the spawner block (placing a Redstone Block beside it or attaching a lever) instantly deactivates it.
- Villager Trading & Restocking: Villagers reliably replenish their trade inventories twice daily.
- Livestock Breeding: Cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens can be bred normally for food, leather, and wool production.
- Redstone Automation: Pistons, observers, hoppers, droppers, and dispensers function smoothly across your automated machinery.
2. Minimal Optimizations to Protect 20 TPS Performance #
To guarantee steady 20 TPS server performance (zero lag and zero tick delays), a few lightweight technical rules from our Server Limitations are in place. These rules are carefully calibrated so they never disrupt natural survival gameplay:
| Mechanic | Optimization | Impact on Gameplay |
|---|---|---|
| Area Entity Balance (5x5 Rule) | A compact 5x5 block area may host up to 40 entities of the same type. Excess entities are automatically cleared. | Different species (e.g., 30 cows, 30 sheep, 30 chickens) are counted independently. 40 animals per type in a small pen is more than generous for standard farms. |
| Dynamic Mob Spawning Rates | Natural mob spawn frequencies dynamically balance according to concurrent online player count. | More mobs spawn during low-population hours, standard rates apply during normal hours, and rates are slightly trimmed during peak congestion. This subtle proportioning ensures smooth TPS without disrupting gameplay. |
| Farmer Villager Behavior | Farmer villagers tend to crops only when an active player is nearby. | Whenever you are around your farm, villagers harvest and sow crops normally. |
| Piston Interactions | Pistons cannot push moss blocks or waterlogged slabs and stairs. | Does not impact standard piston doors, slime pushers, or harvesting machines. |
| Nether Ceiling Building | Accessing the bedrock roof is allowed, but blocks cannot be placed on top of the ceiling. | Build your Nether farms beneath the bedrock ceiling within standard Nether terrain. |
3. Best Practices for Safe Farm Construction #
- Protect Your Investment: Always build your automated farms, hoppers, and storage arrays inside your Land Claims to prevent tampering or theft by other players.
- Organized Storage: Route items into organized chest systems so you can readily sell surplus yields on the player-driven Bazaar for server currency.
